PETER KALLOK

Associate Professor of Theatre Design

Hampshire College

Peter’s current research and teaching interests include design-driven performance, light art, escape room design, scenic, lighting, costume, sound and projection design, scenography, and performance spaces. He has explored guerilla lighting techniques with his classes creating transformative lighting interventions. His work includes light art installations at the Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm in the Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY, at the Valley Lux Festival, Montague, MA, and at Emergence: An Evening of Art, Music, and Performance, Holyoke, MA. Peter’s most recent project involves designing an Experiential Learning Space (aka escape room) located at the U. S. Consulate General, Frankfurt, Germany.

With more than fifty designs to his credit Peter’s work includes scenery for Equus, Riches, Closer, Venus, BFE, and Money Play, as well as lights for The Ride Across Lake Constance, Riches, Unplugging and Bind Their Wounds at Hampshire College. Other professional and summer stock design credits include StageWest, the Miniature Theatre of Chester, Summer Theatre Mount Holyoke, Worcester Foothills Theater, New London Barn Playhouse and Interlakes Summer Theatre. Peter has served as designer and fabrication consultant respectively for WALA Heimettel, International, and AGH Design. He designed and fabricated scenic elements for Popa Depot for HERE’S American Living Room Series.

Peter received his B.A. from U.C.L.A. and his M.F.A. from the University of Washington.
